A pennant in baseball is a term used to describe the championship trophy or flag that is awarded to the team that finishes first in their respective league. In Major League Baseball (MLB), there are two leagues - the American League (AL) and the National League (NL) - each consisting of 15 teams. At the end of the regular season, the team with the best record in each league is awarded the pennant, signifying their status as league champions and advancement to the World Series, where they will compete against the pennant winner from the other league for the title of World Series champions. The tradition of awarding pennants dates back to the 19th century and continues to be a highly coveted achievement in baseball.
